Support the Mental Health Services for Students Act
To commemorate Mental Health Action Day (May 20), Inseparable is working to support the Mental Health Services for Students Act (H.R.721). This past year has put unprecedented emotional strain on young people’s mental health: managing virtual school, maintaining affirming connections to their friends, seeing parents struggle with job loss or financial stress, and staying protected from COVID-19. Unfortunately, there was a 24 percent increase in emergency room visits for mental health reasons for kids aged 5 through 11 and more than a 30 percent increase for kids between 12 and 17 in 2020. Our leaders need to do more to ensure our young people are healthy and supported — this legislation would provide funding for schools across the country to establish their own on-site mental health services.
