As a parent I know how rough things can be for my children and as a teacher what we see and hear in the classroom can be extremely different from our children at home. I know in many phone calls home that parents are often shocked when I relay information about their kids to them and they almost always are looking for resources to help their kiddo.

I never want it to be too late for my family, or for my students, to get the support they need. This is why I think it is so important that schools have mental health screenings. From teaching kids coping skills, to supporting their emotional needs and helping create a positive school environment, mental health programs are vital to the educational setting.
