When I completed clinical hours for nursing school at a local high school, I was shocked at the statistics of children with mental illness. I discovered that school mental health programs were not only essential in schools but they are designed to support families through difficult times. I will continue to support our mental health programs in Colorado so we can be one step closer to helping children overcome mental illness. This starts with the need for mental health screenings in schools that allow us as parents to better understand the care our children need.
