What is a Mental Health Now candidate?

The Mental Health Now Candidate program, powered by Inseparable Action, signals to voters that a candidate will prioritize mental health policy if elected. This means they will stand for increasing access to mental healthcare, promoting prevention and early intervention by expanding youth mental health services, improving crisis response, and strengthening the mental health workforce. The distinction is non-partisan and more than one candidate in a race can receive it.

How does the Mental Health Now program work?

Mental Health Now is intended to empower voters who care about mental health to identify candidates who have committed to govern with mental health in mind. We encourage voters to do their own research, to remind candidates of their commitment to increasing access to care, improving crisis response, expanding youth services, and strengthening the mental health workforce, and to make sure they know how important that commitment is to you.

Is Mental Health Now an endorsement?

No, Mental Health Now is a statement of support signed by candidates, not an endorsement or scorecard. Earning the Mental Health Now badge means a candidate has committed to support policies that (1) increase access to mental healthcare, (2) improve crisis response, (3) expand youth mental health services (4) and strengthen the mental health workforce. Candidates who sign the statement of support may not agree with each other or with Inseparable on each policy solution. They have agreed to do their part to bring mental health to the forefront of the policy conversation and advance access to care, crisis services, youth mental health, and the mental health workforce.
