Mental Health Advocate from Michigan

Something I hold close to my heart and am always open to talk about is mental health. As someone who has struggled with anxiety and depression in the past, it is so important to have access to treatment. Growing up with a parent who also struggled with mental health was very difficult especially when they weren’t properly being treated. In 2021, the equivalent of 11 Michiganders died every day by suicide or an opioid overdose. In 2019, my father became part of that statistic. Half of adult Michiganders with mental health conditions did not receive needed treatment last year. Many people are unable to get recommended treatment because their insurance company won’t cover it. Mental health matters!
